Ingredients

For the Chicken
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces for perfect frying
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch for crispy coating
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour adds to the crunchiness
  • 1/2 tsp salt essential for flavor
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper just a hint of spice
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder for savory aroma
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder adds depth to the flavor
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil for frying
For the Honey Sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey the star ingredient
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce adds umami flavor
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar for acidity
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil for nutty flavor
  • 1 tsp minced garlic fresh is always best
  • 1 tsp minced ginger for a zesty kick
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch to thicken the sauce
  • 2 tbsp water to create a slurry

Equipment

  • Large Skillet or Wok
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Step 1: In a bowl, mix the cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder together.
  2. Step 2: Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten egg, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat them in the flour mixture.
  3. Step 3: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Step 4: Once the oil is hot, add the coated chicken pieces in batches, frying until golden brown and cooked through. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Step 5: In a separate saucepan, combine the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  6. Step 6: In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add it to the sauce and stir until it thickens, which should only take a minute or two.
  7. Step 7: Finally, add the fried chicken to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. Make sure every piece is deliciously covered!
  8. Step 8: Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

If you happen to have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm it in a skillet over medium heat to retain its crispiness.
