Ingredients

For the Galettes Bretonnes
  • 250 g all-purpose flour This is the base of our biscuits, giving them that lovely structure.
  • 125 g unsalted butter softened
  • 100 g granulated sugar Just the right amount of sweetness to balance the butter.
  • 1 large egg Helps bind everything together and adds moisture.
  • 1 tsp sea salt A pinch of salt enhances all the flavors.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract For that warm, inviting aroma and taste.
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder Helps the biscuits rise for a light and tender texture.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Step 2: In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Step 3: Add the egg, sea salt, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until everything is well combined.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
  5. Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a smooth dough forms.
  6. Step 6: Roll the dough into small balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Step 7: Flatten each ball slightly with the palm of your hand or a fork to give them that classic biscuit shape.
  8. Step 8: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Step 9: Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you want to keep them longer, they freeze beautifully!
