Ingredients

For the Focaccia
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F or 43°C
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup pecans chopped
  • Coarse sea salt

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk or Spoon
  • Floured Surface
  • Greased Baking Sheet
  • Clean Cloth
  • Oven
  • Cooling Rack

Method

  1. Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Step 2: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Step 3: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Step 4: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Step 5: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Step 6: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Spread the dough out to fit the sheet.
  7. Step 7: Drizzle the maple syrup over the dough and sprinkle the chopped pecans on top. Gently press the pecans into the dough.
  8. Step 8: Allow the dough to rest for an additional 20 minutes.
  9. Step 9: Sprinkle coarse sea salt over the top of the dough.
  10. Step 10: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Step 11: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
