  • 1 medium onion, diced For a sweet and aromatic touch.
  • 1 medium zucchini, diced A fresh, colorful addition.
  • 1 medium potato, diced Adds heartiness to the dish.
  • 1 cup black bean paste (chunjang) The star of the show with its deep, umami flavor.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil For sautéing and flavor.
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce A classic seasoning that enhances the taste.
  • 1 tbsp sugar Balances the savory elements.
  • 2 cups water To create a luscious sauce.
  • 1 tsp sesame oil A drizzle of nuttiness at the end.

Equipment

  • Large Pan

Method

  1. Step 1: Start by cooking the wheat noodles according to the package instructions. Once they're done, drain them and set them aside.
  2. Step 2: In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the diced pork belly and cook until it's browned and a bit crispy.
  3. Step 3: Next, toss in the diced onion, zucchini, and potato. Sauté these veggies until they’re slightly softened, filling your kitchen with delicious aromas.
  4. Step 4: Now, stir in the black bean paste, soy sauce, and sugar. Make sure everything is well coated and combined.
  5. Step 5: Pour in the water and bring this mixture to a boil. Once it's boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Step 6: Finally, drizzle in the sesame oil and stir everything together. This will give your sauce that extra depth of flavor.
  7. Step 7: Serve the sauce generously over the cooked noodles and garnish with chopped green onions. Enjoy your homemade Jajangmyeon!

Notes

Leftovers? No problem! Store any uneaten Jajangmyeon in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last for about 3-4 days. Just reheat it gently on the stove or in the microwave before serving.
