Equipment

  • Oven
  • 9-inch Round Cake Pans
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Wire Rack

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to ensure your cakes come out easily.
  2. Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this aside for later.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until it’s light and fluffy. This step is crucial for a tender cake!
  4. Step 4: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract to infuse that lovely flavor.
  5. Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Start with the flour mixture and end with it, mixing until just combined.
  6. Step 6: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Step 7: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Keep an eye on them towards the end!
  8. Step 8: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Step 9: Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and then frost the top and sides of the entire cake.
  10. Step 10: Finally, decorate with sprinkles as desired. Slice and serve to your eager guests!
